Peter Obi gives condition to step down from 2027 presidential race.

According to Channels Television, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he is willing to step down from the 2027 presidential race under a specific condition. Obi made it clear during an interview that he would only withdraw if a credible and issue-based coalition is formed—one that genuinely prioritizes good governance and the future of Nigeria. He emphasized that such a coalition must not be built on personal interests or power-sharing arrangements but on a shared vision for national development.

Obi, who ran for president in 2023 and came third, stressed that any alliance he joins must be people-focused, transparent, and driven by competence. He said he would not be part of any political merger simply for defeating the ruling party but would support any movement that aligns with his ideals of reducing poverty, tackling insecurity, and improving education and healthcare. For him, the interest of Nigeria must come before personal ambition.

The former Anambra State governor reaffirmed his readiness to contest the 2027 election if no such coalition emerges. He said his commitment remains to provide credible leadership and offer Nigerians a real alternative to the current system.
