Edo State Residents At Risk Of Major Road Collapse As Massive Erosion Threatens Schools, Communities.
What started as a minor crack in the earth over a decade ago has turned into a deep ravine that has already swallowed dozens of homes and farmlands, leaving people with nowhere to turn.
Residents of Auchi in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State are living in fear as a massive gully erosion continues to expand, threatening to cut off the town’s major road, destroy schools and displace even more families.

According to a civic technology platform, Monitng, the community says every rainfall makes the situation worse. Many fear that if urgent steps are not taken, the erosion will soon consume Warake Road — the main route that connects Auchi to neighbouring communities.
Its collapse could leave thousands stranded and isolate the town from vital supplies and emergency services.
Despite billions of naira reportedly allocated to Edo State over the years for ecological control, residents claim there is no sign of drainage systems, retaining walls or any active erosion control efforts at the site.
Local schools are now so close to the ravine that parents fear for their children’s safety every time it rains.
