Kaduna Trader Petitions IGP Over Alleged ₦600,000 Extortion and 11-Day Unlawful Detention
December 19, 2025
A ginger trader from Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Aliyu Abbah, has petitioned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, accusing officers of the Borno State Police Command of extortion, unlawful detention, and criminalizing a commercial transaction.
Key allegations include:
Aliyu was detained for 11 days in Maiduguri without lawful justification.
Inspector Musa Joseph of the Borno Police allegedly demanded ₦600,000 for bail, despite police directives that bail is free.
He claims threats were made to detain him with Boko Haram suspects if he did not comply.
An NSCDC officer, Aliyu Tanimu Amfani, allegedly accessed his mobile phone without consent and contacted his relatives to collect ₦3 million.
Aliyu’s business dispute with a Borno-based buyer over ginger, which he says should have been a civil matter, escalated into police involvement.
Aliyu requested that the case be transferred to the Force Headquarters’ Complaint Response Unit in Abuja and that the involved officers be investigated, citing loss of confidence in the Borno State Police handling of the matter.
