Tinubu Pushes for State Police, LG Autonomy, Seeks Governors’ Backing
Calls for the creation of state police have intensified amid Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Interior to collaborate with the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to replace affected police personnel with NSCDC officers.
The President has also urged APC governors and other state governors to support the establishment of state police and the full implementation of local government autonomy.
Tinubu made the appeal on Thursday at the 14th APC National Caucus meeting held in Abuja.
He called on governors to uphold the Supreme Court’s judgment on local government autonomy, stressing that beyond the ruling, statutory allocations must be paid directly to local government councils.
In addition, President Tinubu advocated increased inclusion of women in the APC National Caucus to promote gender balance.
