Vatican Faces Backlash Over “Doublespeak” on Alleged Christian Genocide in Nigeria
Article:
The Vatican, particularly Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, is facing criticism over what some describe as “doublespeak” regarding the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
A report released on Monday by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), timed to coincide with the Feast of Christ the King, accuses the Vatican of taking a position that contradicts longstanding Church teachings on religious freedom, which date back to the Edict of Milan in 313 AD.
The report was signed by Intersociety Board Chair Emeka Umeagbalasi and other officials, highlighting growing concern among civil society groups about the Church’s stance on the issue.
