Intersociety: 280 Christians Killed, 623 Abducted Across Nigeria in Two Months

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has reported that 280 Christians were killed and 623 abducted between September and November 2025 in attacks linked to armed groups across Nigeria.

According to the group’s chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, the five-day period from November 17 to 21 alone saw 388 kidnappings, including schoolchildren, teachers, clergy, and worshippers in multiple states.

Victims within the period include:
• A Catholic priest and others in Southern Kaduna (Nov 17)
• Schoolgirls in Wasagu/Danko, Kebbi State
• 38 worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Kwara (Nov 18)
• A church leader in Southern Kaduna (Nov 19)
• 315 pupils and teachers at a Catholic school in Agwara LGA, Niger State (Nov 21)
• 13 women in Askira-Uba, Borno State

Intersociety also expressed concern over what it described as conflicting statements from the Holy See regarding the situation of persecuted Christians in Nigeria, warning that such inconsistencies could downplay the severity of ongoing violence.

Umeagbalasi stressed the need for stronger protection for civilians, clearer global advocacy, and better collaboration between Nigerian authorities and international partners to address the worsening insecurity.
