Osun 2026: APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru Withdraws From Governorship Race

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has withdrawn from the 2026 governorship race in Osun State.
He announced his decision on Saturday in Osogbo during the inauguration of Alubarika House, the headquarters of his political movement.

Basiru explained that the demands of his current office and consultations with party leaders—including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—made it necessary for him to step aside. He said the move should not be seen as abandoning his political goals but as a renewed commitment to support upcoming leaders in line with the Renewed Hope agenda.

He also donated ₦50 million as take-off funds for programmes at the new Alubarika House.

With his withdrawal, about 13 aspirants remain in the race for the APC ticket, including Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Dotun Babayemi, among others.
