Supporters Escort Natasha to NASS as Sergeant-At-Arms Unseals Her Office
Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday trooped to the National Assembly to celebrate the reopening of her office, which had remained sealed for six months following her suspension.
The group had earlier accompanied the Kogi Central Senator from the FCT High Court, where she appeared in a defamation case filed against her by the Federal Government on behalf of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Channels Television reports that the office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, was officially unsealed by the Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji. The move clears the way for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s possible return when plenary resumes on October 7, 2025.
Her office was locked in March after the Senate suspended her for alleged violations of its standing rules, a decision that triggered widespread criticism from civil society groups and opposition figures.
Although she challenged the suspension in court in July, the case remains unresolved. Having completed the six-month ban earlier this month, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan formally notified the Senate of her intention to resume duties.
The Senate, however, maintained that her return is subject to the outcome of the ongoing judicial process.
“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the Senate stated in response to her letter.
Despite the legal hurdles, Tuesday’s unsealing signals a potential return to the Red Chamber for the embattled lawmaker.
