Victory in the Forest: Zamfara Strikes Major Blow Against Notorious Bandits, Turji Flees Hideout

The Zamfara State Government has hailed Monday’s daring security raid as a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against banditry in the northwest.

Speaking to the BBC Hausa Service, Ahmad Manga, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Dauda Lawal, confirmed that security operatives stormed a remote hideout previously untouched by law enforcement and inflicted heavy casualties on the notorious gang.

“Alhamdulillah, he was finally tracked down in a place security agents had never reached before. He realized he was no longer untouchable,” Manga stated.

Among the fallen was Bashari Maniya, a once-feared bandit who had reportedly turned informant. Manga clarified that Maniya was not killed by enemy fire, but died in a vehicle crash during the high-speed raid, after the SUV plunged into a hidden ditch deep in the forest.

The real target, infamous kingpin Bello Turji, reportedly fled his base during the confrontation, marking the closest any operation has come to capturing him.

"This time, even Turji knows something has changed,” Manga declared. “We won’t stop until justice is done. The people of Zamfara deserve peace.”

The state government has announced plans to deploy additional military personnel to sustain the momentum and completely dismantle Turji’s network.
