‘Human Life Worth More Than Cows’ — Tinubu Tells Benue Residents Amid Renewed Killings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the value of human life must always take precedence over that of cattle, as he addressed Benue residents during a condolence visit following a surge in deadly attacks linked to suspected armed herders.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Makurdi, the state capital, Tinubu stressed the urgent need to end the bloodshed and foster lasting peace in the region. He warned that ongoing insecurity only benefits political adversaries determined to destabilize Nigeria.
“The value of human life is greater than that of a cow,” Tinubu said. “When you allow conflict to fester, you give room for political enemies to exploit the situation. They don’t want you to succeed.”
In a mix of reflection and defiance, the President noted:
“No matter what I do, critics will always have something to say. But sometimes, I draw ideas from their criticisms. While they talk, I perform.”
His remarks follow renewed violence in Benue, where recent attacks have left dozens dead and many displaced. Local leaders and civil society organizations have repeatedly accused security forces of inaction or complicity.
Tinubu arrived at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi around 12:58 p.m. on Wednesday. The Benue State Government declared a public holiday in his honour, with a circular calling for a coordinated and colourful procession to welcome him.
Signed by Hon. Francis U. Ngutswen, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Special Groups Mobilisation, the memo urged support groups to lead a symbolic procession from the airport to the Government House.
The President also met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and political stakeholders, pledging a more decisive federal response to the ongoing crisis.
