Bolaji Idowu
Bolaji Idowu is a Nigerian pastor, teacher, and leadership speaker best known as the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre and the convener of Next Level Prayers. Harvesters says the church began on 13 December 2003 from a small gathering and has since grown into a multi-location ministry with branches in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States, attracting more than 70,000 worshippers online and onsite.
Early Life and Background
Official public profiles on Idowu focus much more on his ministry and teaching than on his childhood or family background. What is consistently documented is that he built his ministry base in Lagos and rose to prominence as part of a younger generation of Nigerian Pentecostal leaders with a strong youth and city-ministry appeal. The Guardian described him in 2023 as the Lead Pastor of Harvesters and linked the beginning of his public rise to the development of Next Level Prayers.
Education
Bolaji Idowu is a graduate of Accounting from the University of Lagos. The Daystar Leadership Academy profile also says he teaches in areas such as Business Process Regeneration, Kingdom Finance, and the creation and implementation of ideas, and serves as chancellor of the Harvesters Spiritual Development College and Harvesters Business School.
Beginning of Ministry
Harvesters’ official history says the church was born from a vision given to Idowu and launched in December 2003 with only a handful of people. Over the years, it developed into a major urban church network, with official church listings naming multiple campuses across Lagos as well as locations in Abuja, Ibadan, London, and elsewhere.
Next Level Prayers
One of the biggest parts of Idowu’s public story is Next Level Prayers. In a 2023 interview reported by The Guardian, he said the prayer platform came out of a painful season marked by disappointment, betrayal, and deep emotional struggle. He said that period pushed him into intense prayer and fasting, and what began as prayer with church leaders later expanded to members and then onto social media, where he said participation grew into the hundreds of thousands.
Ministry and Humanitarian Work
Idowu’s ministry has also been linked to humanitarian outreach. During the COVID-19 period, TheCable reported that Harvesters offered one of its facilities in Lagos as an emergency isolation centre and also ran food and cash-relief interventions. The report said the church distributed 57,552 meals to 2,398 families and announced plans for further relief support.
Personal Life
The Daystar Leadership Academy profile says Bolaji Idowu is married to Mowunmi Idowu and that they are blessed with three boys. Harvesters’ official leadership page also lists Omowunmi Idowu among the church’s pastors, showing that she is publicly visible in ministry alongside him.
Public Criticism and Controversies
Idowu has also faced public criticism. In 2024, Punch reported allegations linking him to fraudulent real-estate activity and money laundering. He denied the claims, said he was not involved in property dealings in Nigeria, and insisted his financial records could be checked. Premium Times separately reported his position that he was invited to assist an investigation, not arrested. As of the sources I checked, these were allegations he publicly denied, not a concluded court finding.
He has also drawn backlash over some of his relationship commentary. In 2024, TheCable Lifestyle reported remarks in which he said it was “shameful” for a man to marry for money, and in another report quoted him claiming that many women in parts of Lekki go to the gym partly to find wealthy men. Those comments added to his reputation as a pastor whose sermons often spill into wider social debate online.
Legacy
Bolaji Idowu is widely remembered as a pastor who blended city ministry, prayer revival, practical teaching, and public commentary. His legacy is closely tied to the growth of Harvesters, the rise of Next Level Prayers, and his influence among younger urban Christians in Nigeria and beyond.
