Johnson Suleman

Johnson Suleman is a Nigerian televangelist and pastor best known as the senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, with its headquarters in Auchi, Edo State. He is also linked to Celebration TV and is one of the most visible Pentecostal preachers associated with Nigeria.

Early Life and Background

Johnson Suleman was born Johnson Sule on 24 March 1971 in Benin City, Edo State. Public biographies say he was raised in Auchi, where he had his primary and secondary education, before later becoming known nationally through preaching and television ministry.

Public biographies list the University of Benin as part of Suleman’s educational background. His official ministry pages, however, focus much more on his spiritual call and ministerial work than on formal academic details.

In January 2017, he drew nationwide criticism after remarks about Fulani herdsmen led to public outrage and questioning by the DSS. Contemporary reports show that he was criticized for allegedly urging violent self defense, while he later denied intending to promote religious violence.

He has also faced repeated sexual misconduct allegations. In 2017, singer Stephanie Otobo accused him of infidelity and abuse, claims he denied. Later, actress Halima Abubakar made similar allegations, which he also denied. In 2024, a Federal Capital Territory High Court fined Halima Abubakar for defaming him, and later that year she publicly apologized and said her allegations were false.

In October 2022, gunmen attacked Suleman’s convoy near Auchi, killing several people including police officers. Suleman described it as an assassination attempt, and police later announced an arrest linked to the attack. While this was not a controversy caused by him, it became one of the most widely discussed events in his public life.
