Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), India. He was born into a respected and intellectual family. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a famous Hindi poet, while his mother, Teji Bachchan, was known for her interest in theatre and social activities.

Growing up in a literary environment influenced Amitabh greatly. He studied at Sherwood College in Nainital and later attended Delhi University, where he graduated with a degree in science.

Before entering the film industry, Amitabh briefly worked in a shipping company in Kolkata.

Entry Into Bollywood

Amitabh Bachchan entered the Indian film industry in 1969 with the movie Saat Hindustani. The film did not become a big commercial success, but it introduced him to the industry.

His deep baritone voice and tall personality were unusual for Bollywood at that time. In fact, he was rejected by many producers early in his career.

His breakthrough came in 1973 with the movie Zanjeer, where he played the role of an angry police officer. This film changed his career and created a new Bollywood archetype known as the “Angry Young Man.”

Political Career

In 1984, Amitabh Bachchan entered politics and contested the parliamentary elections from Allahabad. He won with a huge margin and became a Member of Parliament.

However, he left politics after a few years, saying that the political world was not meant for him.

Financial Struggles and Comeback

In the 1990s, Amitabh faced financial problems due to the failure of his company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL).

Many believed his career was over.

But in 2000, he made one of the greatest comebacks in entertainment history when he became the host of the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, titled Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).

The show became extremely successful and brought him back to the top.
