Reminisce

Reminisce, whose real name is Remilekun Khalid Safaru, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter widely respected for blending Yoruba language with hip hop and Afrobeats. Born on January 26, 1981, in Kaduna State, Nigeria, he hails from Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria. Over the years, Reminisce has built a strong reputation as one of the leading indigenous rappers in Nigeria.

Although born in northern Nigeria, Reminisce grew up in the southwest, where he was exposed to Yoruba culture and language, which later became central to his musical identity. From a young age, he developed a deep interest in music and was inspired by both international hip hop artists and Nigerian rap pioneers.

Reminisce began performing as a teenager, participating in local rap battles and talent shows. His early influences included global rap icons as well as Nigerian artists who were shaping the local hip hop scene. Determined to carve his own path, he focused on mastering rap in both English and Yoruba, a combination that later became his signature style.

He studied Purchasing and Supply at Kwara State Polytechnic but remained deeply committed to his music career. In the mid 2000s, Reminisce started gaining underground recognition through mixtapes and collaborations. His lyrical strength and confident delivery quickly attracted attention.

His breakthrough came with the release of his debut album Book of Rap Stories in 2012. The album featured songs that showcased his ability to switch between hardcore rap and commercially appealing sounds. It established him as a serious contender in the Nigerian hip hop industry.

In 2013, he released his second album Alaga Ibile, which translates to Chairman of the Streets. The album solidified his street credibility and strengthened his fan base. Songs from the project received significant airplay, and his blend of rap with street conscious themes resonated strongly with Nigerian youth.

Reminisce continued his success with the release of Baba Hafusa in 2015. The album became a major commercial success and debuted on international music charts, making him one of the few Nigerian rappers at the time to achieve such recognition. The project featured hit tracks that further cemented his status as a versatile artist.

Beyond music, Reminisce has also ventured into acting. He appeared in the popular Nigerian crime series King of Boys, where his performance was praised by fans and critics. His involvement in film demonstrated his versatility beyond the recording studio.

Known for his strong stage presence and confident personality, Reminisce has collaborated with numerous top artists across different genres. He has consistently balanced street credibility with mainstream appeal, allowing him to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving industry.

Throughout his career, Reminisce has received awards and nominations for his contribution to Nigerian hip hop. He is often recognized as one of the key figures who helped popularize indigenous rap in Nigeria.

From underground rap battles to international chart recognition, Reminisce’s journey reflects persistence, authenticity, and cultural pride. Today, he remains one of Nigeria’s most respected rappers, continuing to influence the hip hop scene while staying true to his roots as Alaga Ibile.
