Lil Kesh, whose real name is Keshinro Ololade, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his energetic street anthems and catchy Yoruba infused lyrics. Born on March 14, 1995, in Bariga, Lagos State, Nigeria, Lil Kesh grew up in a lively environment that heavily influenced his music style and personality.

 

Raised in Bariga, one of Lagos’ bustling neighborhoods, Lil Kesh developed an early interest in music. The vibrant street culture around him shaped his creative expression and gave him firsthand experiences that later became themes in his songs. From a young age, he admired Nigerian music stars and dreamed of making a name for himself in the industry.

 

Lil Kesh attended Stockbridge College in Lagos before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he studied Linguistics. While in school, he actively pursued music, recording songs and performing at events. His big break came in 2014 when he signed with YBNL Nation, the record label founded by Olamide.

 

Under YBNL, Lil Kesh quickly rose to fame with the release of his hit single “Shoki.” The song became a nationwide sensation, dominating clubs, radio stations, and street parties. “Shoki” introduced a dance move that became popular among young Nigerians, further boosting his visibility. The success of the song established him as one of the leading voices of street pop music.

 

Following the success of “Shoki,” Lil Kesh released other hit singles such as “Efejoku,” “Gbese,” and “Is It Because I Love You.” His music was characterized by energetic beats, playful lyrics, and heavy use of Yoruba language, which made his songs relatable to a wide audience. His style blended rap with Afro pop elements, creating a sound that appealed especially to the youth.

 

In 2016, Lil Kesh released his debut album YAGI, which stands for Young And Getting It. The album featured collaborations with top artists and further cemented his place in the Nigerian music scene. YAGI showcased his versatility, mixing party tracks with more reflective songs.

 

After his contract with YBNL ended, Lil Kesh launched his own record label, YAGI Records, marking a new phase in his career. This move demonstrated his desire for independence and growth as an artist and entrepreneur. Under his label, he continued releasing singles and projects, maintaining relevance in the industry.

 

Throughout his career, Lil Kesh has received several nominations and awards, including recognition at The Headies. His impact during the mid 2010s was significant, especially in shaping the street pop sound that dominated Nigerian music at the time.
