Love Found Me When I Wasn’t Looking (Episode 24)

Victoria’s Mother POV

Abuja has a way of making silence feel heavy.

The day Mr. Benson came to visit me, the harmattan air was dry and still. I welcomed him warmly, though something inside me felt unsettled. It had been many years since we last saw each other, yet the past walked in with him and sat quietly in my living room.

After the usual greetings and memories, his tone changed.

“My sister,” Mr. Benson said softly, “I came to talk to you about my son.”

My heart stirred, but I kept my face calm.

“Daniel is grown now,” he continued. “Hard-working, focused. But recently… I found out he is seeing someone.”

I nodded slowly.
“These children of today,” I said, choosing my words carefully.

He sighed. “I don’t know the girl. I don’t know her background. And for some reason, it worries me.”

The promise from the past pressed heavily on my chest. I wanted to ask who is she? I wanted to say what if she is already the one meant for him? But fear held me back. Some truths, once spoken, cannot be undone.

“I understand you, Mr. Benson. Because my daughter, Victoria, is also seeing someone.”

His eyes lifted quickly.

“She hasn’t told me much,” I added. “Only that the young man is kind and serious about her.”

We sat there, staring at each other two parents bound by an old vow, both pretending not to hear its echo.

“Maybe it’s just a phase,” Mr. Benson said quietly.

“Maybe,” I replied, though my heart disagreed.

When he stood to leave, I followed him to the door. The words sat on my tongue, burning. *Our children were promised.* *Their paths may already have crossed.

But I said nothing.

Mr. Benson – POV

As I drove away from her house in Abuja, my chest felt tight.

I went to speak about my son, yet I left thinking about her daughter.

Daniel is seeing someone.
Victoria is seeing someone.

Coincidence… or fate?

My mind went back to my old friend the land he gave me when I had nothing, the promise we made under the open sky.

“If God gives us children, they will marry.”

What if the promise has already found its way into the present?
And what if it hasn’t?

I stayed silent because silence felt safer than the truth. If I spoke too soon and was wrong, I could destroy something beautiful. And if I spoke and was right… then destiny would no longer be patient.

As the city lights passed me by, one thought stayed firm in my heart

If Daniel and Victoria truly belong together, the truth will reveal itself whether we speak or not .
