CAN Slams Police Over Denial of Kaduna Church Kidnappings, Calls for Accountability

Joseph John Hayab, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 19 states and the FCT, has condemned the Nigerian police for initially denying reports of a mass abduction at a Kaduna church. Speaking on Arise TV, Hayab criticized conflicting statements from security agencies, noting that debates over the number of victims distracted from the core issue—the abduction itself.

He urged authorities to stop disputing figures and focus on addressing the crime, highlighting that the church and community had consistently reported the attack. Over 100 worshippers were kidnapped during services in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru LGA, with about 10 vulnerable victims later released.

The incident has sparked public outcry and calls for greater transparency, accountability, and coordinated action from security agencies to curb insecurity in Kaduna State, which has faced repeated deadly attacks by bandits.
