Cricket Spotlight: Rabada’s Fiery Five Sets SA on Front Foot in WTC Final

Day 1 of the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s, London, belonged to South Africa. They bowled out Australia for 211, thanks to a sensational 5-wicket haul by Kagiso Rabada (5–51), and closed the day with Australia struggling at 19–2  .

Rabada spearheaded the Proteas’ disciplined bowling attack, delivering a fiery opening burst that rattled the Aussie top order—removing Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw early on  . Despite resistances from Beau Webster (72) and Steve Smith (66), Australia collapsed, losing their last five wickets for just 21 runs  .

In response, Australia fought back strongly with the ball: Mitchell Starc removed Keegan Petersen for a duck, and complemented by pressure from Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, they ended the day on top at 19–2  

Day 1 showcased why Rabada is a leader in Test cricket’s fast-bowling elite—and set up a thrilling contest for the remaining four days.
