NAF Denies Spy Claims As 11 Officers, C-130 Aircraft Remain Held In Burkina Faso
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified that the 11 officers and a C-130 military transport aircraft reportedly seized in Burkina Faso have not yet been released, while firmly rejecting allegations that the mission was linked to espionage.
In a statement, the NAF spokesperson dismissed claims that the aircraft was forced to land on suspicion of spying, explaining that the C-130 was on a routine maintenance ferry flight. The Air Force stressed that the aircraft was not involved in any covert or intelligence-gathering operation.
The NAF also debunked reports suggesting that the crew members and engineering personnel onboard were intelligence officers or espionage specialists. According to the Air Force, those involved were standard aircrew and mission-support officers carrying out a legitimate military air movement.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged the public to disregard misinformation surrounding the incident, noting that diplomatic and military channels are being engaged to resolve the situation.
