Kano Prosecutor in Ganduje Dry Port Case Arrested by Armed Police, Amnesty International Condemns Operation

Heavily armed police officers allegedly deployed from Abuja on Friday arrested Muhuyi Magaji, the lead prosecutor in the high-profile corruption case involving former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his family. Magaji, a former anti-corruption commission chairman, was taken from his law office in what witnesses described as a “Gestapo-style” operation before being moved to an undisclosed location.

The arrest has ignited outrage, with Amnesty International calling it arbitrary and politically motivated, while the Kano State Government warned that the move violates court orders and threatens constitutional governance. The arrest comes amid ongoing proceedings over allegations that Ganduje secretly transferred Kano’s 20% equity in the multibillion-naira Dala Inland Dry Port to private individuals.

As tensions rise, civil society groups are mobilising and authorities have yet to explain Magaji’s whereabouts or the legal basis for the operation.
