From Stage to Sanctuary? Bella Shmurda Says If Not Music, He’d Be a Preacher or Motivational Speaker

As one of Nigeria’s most magnetic Afrobeats voices, Bella Shmurda (Abiola Akinbiyi) recently opened up about the deep motivations that shape his music—and his life.

In the documentary “Tension in Ibadan” by WeTalkSound, Bella shared that he treats music as a spiritual gift:

“I’m not just an artist. I do prophetic music… before recording, I pray to God for inspiration.”

He describes himself as a “prophetic artist”—someone who believes his songs carry spiritual messages, not just catchy tunes.

Bella’s 2023 journey into fatherhood profoundly shaped his purpose. As he told Gistlover:

“What’s in my head is ‘Wetin this boy go see in the next 10 years?’ … I want him to turn on the TV and say ‘That’s my daddy.’”

His son inspired him to build a legacy—not merely in music, but as a figure of integrity and inspiration for future generations.

While Bella didn’t explicitly say he’d be a preacher or motivational speaker, his comments paint the picture:

  • He addresses his audience with spiritual, prophetic intent.
  • He’s motivated by helping others through music, community (via Dangbana Republik), and fatherhood.
  • His words suggest he sees himself as fulfilling a higher calling—teaching, guiding, and uplifting.

Combine his spiritual focus, his purposeful communication, and his heartfelt desire to inspire—and a preacher or motivational speaker role seems like a natural alternative path.
