The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its congratulations to Donald Trump following his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with the United States.

The statement highlighted the longstanding cooperation between both nations in areas such as promoting good governance, sustainable development, and combating terrorism and violent extremism.

“Nigeria looks forward to further solidifying our historic, strong, and vibrant strategic partnership for the benefit of our peoples,” the statement read.

President Trump was inaugurated for a historic second term on Monday. During his speech, he unveiled over 100 new policies, including controversial proposals to revoke birthright citizenship for unauthorized immigrants and deport illegal residents.

The Federal Government expressed optimism about continuing a mutually beneficial relationship with the United States under Trump's administration.
