Reps Urge Tinubu to Present 2025 Budget Proposal Immediately

The House of Representatives has urged President Bola Tinubu to present the 2025 Budget Estimates immediately, noting that the delay violates the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently present the 2025 Budget Estimates, noting that it should have been submitted to the National Assembly by the end of August.

Citing a motion raised by lawmaker Clement Jimbo, the House expressed concern over the delay in submitting the budget proposal with just over two months remaining in the 2024 fiscal year. Lawmakers highlighted the limited time left to thoroughly review and pass the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and the 2025 Budget.

The House emphasized that the delay violates the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, which mandates that the Federal Government must submit the MTEF at least four months before the start of the new financial year. The matter has been referred to the Committee on National Planning.

This comes as President Tinubu embarked on a two-week leave to the United Kingdom on October 2, 2024.
