African Union Slams Trump’s Travel Ban on Seven Member States, Warns of Diplomatic Tensions

The African Union (AU) has issued a strong rebuke of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban, which targeted citizens from seven AU member states. Labeling the policy as discriminatory and unjust, the AU warned that the move could trigger serious diplomatic fallout between the continent and the United States.

The ban, first implemented during Trump’s presidency, restricted entry for citizens from several African countries under the guise of national security concerns. The AU condemned the decision, stating it undermined African dignity, fueled xenophobia, and ignored the principles of international cooperation.

In a sharply worded statement, the AU emphasized that such actions damage longstanding diplomatic ties and hinder mutual efforts in areas such as counterterrorism, economic development, and cultural exchange. It also called on current U.S. leaders to reverse lingering impacts of the policy and re-engage Africa on the basis of equality and mutual respect.

This renewed criticism comes amid broader discussions about Africa’s role in global geopolitics and the need for more respectful and inclusive international policies.
