Nigerian Youths Should Be Prepared For Politics Driven By Values – Itodo
Samson Itodo, Director of Yiaga Africa, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace a value-based and performance-driven approach to politics. Speaking during Channels TV’s special programme on President Tinubu’s second anniversary, Itodo stressed that youth leadership must reflect substance, not just numbers.
He criticized Nigeria's prevailing political culture, saying it lacks the values and merit needed for progress. “Young people must not mimic traditional politicians. They need preparation, leadership development, and an ideology to guide them,” he stated.
While acknowledging youth participation since the Not Too Young To Run Bill of 2018, Itodo warned that representation alone is not enough without performance in public office. He called for deliberate efforts to empower young Nigerians and promote transformative leadership.
