My Baby Died in a Wooden Crate” — Ibrahim Chatta Recounts Heartbreaking Loss Due to Poverty

Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has shared a deeply emotional story about how poverty cost him his first child. In a candid moment on a movie set, the veteran actor revealed that his baby girl died in a Lagos hospital because he couldn’t afford the hospital bills.
Chatta said he trekked across parts of Lagos — from Ijora Badia to Makoko — in a desperate attempt to raise money, but sadly, help never came.
“Malik is not my firstborn. My first child was a baby girl. She died because I couldn’t pay the hospital bill,” he recounted. “We buried her in a wooden Coca-Cola crate.”
This heartbreaking memory highlights the struggles even successful stars have faced on their journey.
In a separate interview, the 54-year-old actor also addressed his absence from the prestigious AMVCA awards, saying his non-involvement is intentional, as he has never submitted his work for nomination.
“I’m not interested in the award, so I don’t pray for it,” he stated.
