Akon whose full name is Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam was born on April 16, 1973, in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.
He comes from a Senegalese family. His father, Mor Thiam, was a well known percussionist and cultural historian.
Akon spent part of his childhood in Senegal, where he was exposed to African music and culture before later returning to the United States.
Education
Akon attended school in the United States and developed interest in music during his teenage years. Growing up around musicians helped him learn how to produce and perform music.
Beginning of Music Career
Akon began recording music in the early 2000s. His breakthrough came in 2004 with the release of his debut album Trouble.
