Global Yoruba Nation Coordinators Hold Strategic Meeting in Benin Republic, Vow to Intensify Push for Self-Determination

Yoruba Nation coordinators from across Nigeria and the diaspora convened in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on Tuesday for a high-level strategic meeting aimed at accelerating their campaign for self-determination and the creation of an independent Yoruba nation.

The gathering was organized by Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa, a prominent Yoruba youth leader based in the United States, and brought together key movement figures—including regional leaders, grassroots mobilizers, and international representatives.

Among the attendees was Oyegunle Oluwamayowa Omotoyole, popularly known as O. Mayor, Youth Leader of the Yoruba Nation movement. Speaking to SaharaReporters, O. Mayor described the meeting as a major step in the ongoing agitation.

“This meeting is part of our broader preparation for Yoruba self-determination,” he said. “We are sending a clear message to the world: the Yoruba people seek to exit Nigeria and build a sovereign nation of their own.”

Also in attendance was Professor Banji Akintoye, the movement’s National Leader and a respected historian and elder statesman who has long advocated for Yoruba autonomy. His presence underscored the importance of the event.

Olayomi Koiki, CEO of Koiki Media and official spokesperson for Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo (widely known as Sunday Igboho), also participated in the discussions.

Coordinators from all six southwestern states—Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti—as well as representatives from Kwara, Kogi, the Benin Republic, and Ghana, were also present.

The meeting focused on strengthening grassroots mobilization, building international alliances, and defining a peaceful, legal roadmap to Yoruba self-governance. Attendees also emphasized the need for unified action ahead of the Yoruba Nation Mega Rally scheduled for June 15, which is expected to be a major public demonstration of support for the movement.

Organizers reiterated their commitment to a non-violent approach, grounded in legal frameworks and civil advocacy.

“We’re building a future where our people can live with dignity, safety, and pride in their identity,” one coordinator said. “Our journey is well underway—and the world must hear our voice.”
