Lagos Fake Love – The Story of Kashali

Kashali came to Lagos with two bags, big dreams, and a heart full of trust.

He was a hardworking young man from Ikorodu, determined to make something better for himself. Every morning before sunrise, he joined the rush of buses, conductors shouting, engines roaring, and the endless movement that made Lagos feel alive. He believed if he worked hard enough, the city would eventually smile at him.

Then he met her.

Her name was Anita.
Soft voice, perfect smile, and a way of looking at Kashali that made him forget all his struggles. She said she liked hardworking men. She said she hated broke guys who made excuses. Kashali felt chosen.

Love in Lagos can feel like a miracle when someone finally sees you.

They started small — late-night calls, long chats, selfies, promises about the future. Soon Anita began to share her problems. Rent issues. Sick aunt. Business she wanted to start. And Kashali, wanting to prove he was different, stepped up every time.

He sent money.

Not because he had plenty, but because he believed in love.

His friends warned him.
“Guy, Lagos girls sharp o.”
But Kashali would laugh. “Una no understand, she’s not like that.”

Weeks turned to months. The requests became bigger. New phone. Hair. Transport. Support. Emergency.

Kashali worked overtime, skipped meals, borrowed from colleagues — all to keep the love alive.

One evening, he decided to surprise her.

He closed early from work and went to her area without telling her. Heart beating fast, smiling, already imagining how happy she would be.

But the surprise was waiting for him.

Anita was standing in front of her house… laughing… holding another man.

Not just holding — comfortable, familiar.

Kashali froze.

Everything he had sacrificed flashed through his mind. The money. The stress. The loyalty. The belief.

He walked closer, hoping maybe it was a mistake.

She saw him.

And instead of panic, Anita looked annoyed.

“Kashali, why you come here without telling me?”

Without telling her.

That was the moment the dream broke.

No apology.
No explanation.
Just irritation, like he had interrupted something important.

Kashali didn’t shout. He didn’t fight.
He simply nodded, turned around, and walked away with the little dignity he had left.

That night, Lagos felt louder than usual.

But something had changed.

Kashali learned that in a city where everyone is trying to survive, emotions can become business. Promises can become tools. And love, sometimes, is just strategy.

From that day, he still worked hard.
Still chased his dreams.

But he locked his heart with experience.

Because in Lagos, not every “I love you” is real.
