Bwari DPO Accused of Brutality and Extortion as Residents Suffer Severe Injuries
A civil society group, Springs Aid Foundation, has petitioned the FCT Police Commissioner over alleged abuse of office and extortion by Bwari Divisional Police Officer, CSP Babayola Muhammad Musa. The petition claims the officer led violent raids, indiscriminately fired live ammunition, and deployed tear gas during New Year’s celebrations in Bwari.
According to the group, over 90 residents—including churchgoers and business owners—were arrested on December 31, 2025, amid panic and chaos. Victims suffered serious injuries; one man, Abraham Emmanuel, reportedly lost an eye after being struck by a tear gas canister, while another, Tasiru, may have died from complications following a gunshot wound.
The petition also alleges that CSP Babayola turned the Bwari Police Station into a “marketplace for bail,” demanding bribes from detainees’ families for their release. Springs Aid Foundation has called for an impartial investigation, warning that failure to act may encourage further abuses.
The FCT Police Command has summoned both the DPO and the victims, though sources allege attempts to downplay the investigation. Meanwhile, local youths have vowed to resist any cover-up, demanding justice for the injured.
