Supporters assert that the young boy is innocent and is being unjustly penalized due to public perception, especially following his appearance during the 2023 election season, where he was seen receiving financial gifts.

The boy, who gained attention during the 2023 general elections for standing in front of the convoy of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is reportedly in detention at the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos State.

According to sources, the boy was detained after being apprehended by individuals in his neighborhood as he was returning from work. He was subsequently taken to the police station where he was accused of theft and involvement in street fighting. However, some eyewitnesses and supporters have denied these allegations, claiming the accusations are baseless.

The case gained further attention after an X user with the handle @Hausa_girl shared details of the boy’s situation, writing: “Do you guys remember this picture? Well, the boy standing in front of this convoy is currently languishing in Kirikiri Prison.” She continued, “Jonathan informed us about the boy. I’ve spoken with his mother, and we also attended his last court hearing at Orege Court in Ajegunle on March 27. The case was adjourned to March 28. I’m not chasing clout with people’s lives!”

The boy’s case is currently under review by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), awaiting legal advice on how to proceed. His supporters maintain that he is innocent and is unfairly suffering from the negative public perception that he became entitled after receiving financial gifts during the election season.

“He’s just a victim,” said one commentator. “He knows the names of the people who took him to the police station — including the one who stole his phone.” The charges he faces include theft and public fighting.

Activist Omoyele Sowore has called for the boy’s immediate release, arguing that his apparent innocence demands urgent action. In a post on his X handle, Sowore appealed to anyone with access to the boy’s lawyers or family to notify him promptly, adding, “Immediate rescue efforts are necessary to remove him from prison.”

The case is expected to continue as supporters rally for justice for the young boy, urging authorities to reconsider the charges and the circumstances leading to his detention.
