The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s judgment that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal did not have the jurisdiction to declare Abure as National Chairman. The court found that the substance of the case related to the internal leadership of the party, which falls outside the jurisdiction of the courts.

The Supreme Court also upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another party, ruling that their appeal was valid and meritorious. Additionally, the court dismissed the cross-appeal from the Abure faction of the Labour Party, deeming it without merit.

This ruling clarifies that leadership disputes within political parties are internal matters that cannot be adjudicated by the courts.
