Six military personnel and two civilians have been arrested following the alleged torture and death of a 65-year-old man, Surajo—also known as “Alhaji M”—in Millennium City, Kaduna State.

According to multiple sources, the incident took place on May 3, 2025, after two civilians, Alhaji Adamu Jinjiri of Shehu Laminu Road and Ibrahim Yakubu of Maladanga Road—both residents of Unguwan Rimi—accused the elderly man of conspiring in the theft of a cow and an electrical distribution box.

Surajo was also accused of assisting a suspect named Yahaya Aleiru, who is currently on the run.

Following the accusation, Surajo was reportedly handed over to the Millennium City Strike Force, a local military task force.

Investigations have revealed that the elderly man was subjected to brutal physical abuse at a military checkpoint. The torture was allegedly led by Lieutenant Alhassan Musa, alongside five other soldiers. Sources said Surajo collapsed during the ordeal and was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of all eight suspects — the six military operatives involved in the alleged torture and the two civilians who made the initial complaint.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for comprehensive investigation,” a police official told SaharaReporters.

This disturbing case has drawn renewed attention to issues of extrajudicial force, military overreach, and the abuse of security frameworks in civilian matters.
