A police officer in Ekiti State has been accused of stabbing a man in Ise-Ekiti after a minor dispute involving the officer’s girlfriend and the victim’s son. The incident has sparked outrage, particularly after the victim’s daughter shared a video on social media detailing the attack.
In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), Priscillia Jerome, the daughter of the victim, accused the officer of storming their home with a colleague to attack her family. This occurred after the officer’s girlfriend allegedly reported an altercation between her brother and the officer’s girlfriend at school.
“After they went to our home to confront my brother, they didn’t find him but found my dad and older brother instead. They then drew a knife and stabbed my dad,” Priscillia said in the video. She further claimed, “The police are doing nothing about it, and the officer is still in uniform.”
Priscillia explained that the officers had arrived at their house claiming they were there to make an arrest. However, the situation escalated when they failed to locate her brother and instead attacked her father, injuring him with a knife.
Following the circulation of the video and widespread public outrage, the Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident. The command announced that the officer involved had been taken into custody.
In a statement released on Friday, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police, SP Abutu Sunday, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, had ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. The statement read, “The Ekiti State Police Command has noticed a video circulating on social media where a young girl (name unknown) was complaining that her father was stabbed by a policeman serving in Ise-Ekiti due to an argument between her brother and the policeman’s girlfriend.”
The police further stated that the officer had been taken into custody for questioning, and an investigation would follow.
“The command is appealing for calm and assures the public and the victim’s family that justice will be served promptly and fairly,” SP Sunday added.
