Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the Ondo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party, citing dissatisfaction with its leadership.

In a public statement made in Akure, the state capital, titled ‘I Quit As The PDP in Ondo State Leaves The Intensive-Care Unit For The Morgue,’ Peretei expressed his frustrations with the leadership of the party, accusing them of lacking any genuine intention to win elections now or in the future. He criticized the party leaders for focusing solely on their own interests, using the party merely for personal gain during election periods.

“It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year,” Peretei remarked. He added that his decision to resign stems from the realization that the leadership of the party has no clear strategy to make it competitive in future elections.

Peretei reflected on his years of service to the party, noting his contributions as both the State Financial Secretary between 1999 and 2003, and as the State Publicity Secretary from 2020 until his resignation. Despite his efforts, he expressed dismay over the party’s leadership, which he believes has hindered its success in the last three election cycles.

“The same people who have held the party hostage, making it impossible to win elections, have tightened their grip on a party that is now lying prostrate in the Intensive Care Unit. The PDP in Ondo State is now on its way to the morgue,” he lamented.

Peretei also advised those dependent on political patronage to consider other career paths for a more fulfilling life, stating that many had become “political bandits” or “Yes men.”

Ondo PDP Responds

The Ondo State chapter of the PDP responded to Peretei’s resignation with a statement acknowledging his right to choose any political affiliation. However, they dismissed his allegations as “vulgar” and “a desecration of the party.”

Leye Igbabo, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, questioned how an individual’s unfulfilled personal ambitions could lead to the supposed downfall of the party. He also expressed amusement at Peretei’s attempt to seek the chairmanship position of a party he now described as being “on its way to the morgue.”

“The party finds it extremely amusing that Mr. Kennedy Peretei, who knew that an organization was on its way to the morgue, could mindlessly seek and recklessly scheme to take the chairmanship position of such a ‘dead’ party!” Igbabo remarked.

He further clarified that the PDP is thriving in Ondo State, with various party members competing for leadership roles, and that Peretei’s resignation had no bearing on the party’s continued vitality.

In conclusion, the Ondo State PDP reaffirmed its commitment to growth and success, dismissing Peretei’s claims as baseless.
