• NAHCON Commissioner Defies VP Shettima’s Order, Retains Retired Staff Amid Nepotism Allegations

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is facing fresh controversy as insiders accuse Commissioner of Operations, Anofi Elegushi, of ignoring Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s directive by retaining a retired officer, Mr. Gaffar, who left the commission in 2023. The retired officer reportedly attends official meetings, travels with the commissioner, and maintains offices in Abuja and Saudi Arabia — actions seen as violations of Public Service Rules. Elegushi is also accused of keeping a former NYSC corps member allegedly related to him, granting her full staff privileges despite her service ending months ago. These actions allegedly defy a written directive from VP Shettima rejecting NAHCON’s request to re-engage retired staff and ordering all such appointments reversed. Staff fear retaliation, with claims that Elegushi is consolidating power ahead of a possible bid for the NAHCON chairmanship. Efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

  • Taraba State Commences Issuance of Appointment Letters to Over 2,000 Governor’s Aides

The Taraba State Government has initiated the distribution of appointment letters to more than 2,000 newly appointed aides, following the approval of Governor Agbu Kefas. This development was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Gebon T. Kataps.

The process is set to commence on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with appointees directed to report to the Political Department at the SGS office to collect their appointment letters and complete necessary documentation.

This move follows the recent inauguration of Chairpersons and Members of Boards and Parastatals, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Community Special Assistants by Governor Kefas, who had not yet received their appointment letters.

The statement also outlines procedures for appointees who are currently serving civil servants. In accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Public Service Rules, career civil servants appointed to statutory commissions or as special advisers are required to either withdraw, resign, or retire from service before their documentation and appointment letters can be finalized. Additionally, civil servants appointed to other political offices must apply for a Leave of Absence through the Head of Civil Service if they intend to return to the civil service after their political tenure.

Failure to comply with these directives will result in the officer being deemed to have absconded from duty.
