Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has expressed opposition to calls for scrapping the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), arguing that it is not the right time for such action. During an interview on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, Fintiri stated that rather than dismantling the anti-corruption body, efforts should be made to strengthen it and improve its effectiveness in fighting corruption.
"For me, it is not the right time to kill the EFCC, whether it has come wrongly or rightly," Fintiri said. He emphasized the need to remove political influences within the agency, which he believes sometimes lead to accusations of witch-hunting instead of focusing on genuine corruption cases.
Fintiri also addressed the ongoing legal battle, where 16 state governors have filed a suit at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the laws establishing the EFCC. While acknowledging the lawsuit, he revealed that Adamawa State has not yet joined but is still reviewing the matter with the state’s Attorney General.
He stated, "If the need arises, I will join, but at the moment, I am not part of it."
