Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community in the Ishielu Local Government Area, allegedly by suspected herdsmen, and has vowed to ensure that those responsible face justice.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, it was revealed that the early morning attack on Sunday resulted in both the loss of lives and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
Governor Nwifuru described the assault as barbaric and unacceptable, expressing his deep sorrow over the tragic incident. “I am saddened by the attack on the people of Nkalaha in Ishielu Local Government Area, which led to the death of innocent citizens. This attack is a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human life,” he stated.
The Governor also expressed concern that the attack, which was not the first of its kind in the area, has become a growing worry for both the state government and the local community.
“The persistent nature of such attacks in this area is alarming and concerning. This is something we, as a government, will not tolerate,” Nwifuru added.
He reassured the citizens of Ebonyi that his administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and properties across the state and will take all necessary measures to restore peace and security.
“As a government dedicated to securing our people, we will take decisive actions to investigate and address the circumstances surrounding this attack,” Nwifuru vowed.
The Governor also urged residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Ebonyi people are known for their hospitality, and it is perplexing why such attacks continue at regular intervals. While our people are accommodating, no one should take advantage of their peaceful nature to instill fear and terror,” he said.
Governor Nwifuru instructed security forces to mobilize fully in the area to contain the situation, offering his condolences to the families of the victims. He assured the public that the government would not rest until justice is served.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families during this difficult time,” he said. “Please rest assured, the perpetrators will be brought to book.”
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State police authorities confirmed that over 10 bodies have been recovered from the scene of the attack.
