The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuchiako, Kuje, has rescheduled the arraignment of Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to February 3, 2025.

Yusuf, who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, was initially set to be arraigned on Thursday on charges of fraud. However, the arraignment was postponed to allow for amendments to the charges, according to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.

Although Yusuf's legal representative, Isah Dokto Haruna, applied for bail, the court denied the request due to the adjournment. Justice Chinyere E. Nwecheonwu ordered that Yusuf be remanded in the custody of the EFCC until the rescheduled hearing.

Yusuf's arrest followed a petition submitted to the former presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health, accusing him of misconduct and fraudulent activities. He was dismissed from his position in 2019 after a fact-finding panel recommended his removal due to alleged mismanagement of N919 million.
