Kano Anti-Graft Chair: ‘Suspect Using Police Against Me. Read more...

The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Rimingado, has alleged that a suspect under investigation by his commission is using law enforcement to target him.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Rimingado addressed his recent arrest, linking it to his role as the head of the anti-corruption agency.

“When you fight corruption, corruption fights back,” he said. “Anti-corruption fight is fair, but corruption fights dirty.”

Rimingado claimed that three federal agencies have been mobilized against him, saying, “There are lots of activities going on, targeted at me.”

"Allegations of Corruption"

Explaining the events leading to his arrest, Rimingado said his commission uncovered the embezzlement of approximately N4 billion in Kano State funds by a public officer.

“We investigated the officer, seized properties in line with the law, and charged the matter to court. Section 40 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Act empowers us to do so,” he stated.

He further alleged that the suspect tried to recover the seized properties unlawfully. “When the accused realized they could not win in court, they activated the police to arrest me,” Rimingado said.

"Arrest Details"

According to Rimingado, the police accused him of abuse of power, mischief, and trespass during his arrest. However, he defended his actions as lawful and within the mandate of his commission.

The Kano anti-graft chair maintained that his arrest is a retaliatory move by those seeking to undermine the fight against corruption.

As of now, the police have not issued an official statement on the matter.
