DR Congo’s President Félix Tshisekedi has declined to participate in a regional peace summit aimed at resolving the escalating conflict in Goma, state media reported. Kenyan President William Ruto had invited Tshisekedi and Rwandan leader Paul Kagame to the talks on Wednesday, but the Congolese president has opted out without providing a reason.

Goma remains under siege as the M23 rebel group, allegedly backed by Rwanda, has seized control of key areas, including the airport. While Kagame has yet to confirm his attendance at the summit, he voiced support for a ceasefire after discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Despite Rwandan denials, the UN maintains that there is substantial evidence linking Kigali to M23’s operations. The fighting has left bodies on the streets and hospitals overwhelmed, while food shortages worsen due to looted warehouses. Basic services, including electricity and internet access, remain unavailable.

Amid growing frustration over international inaction, violent protests erupted in Kinshasa, leading to attacks on at least 10 embassies. Demonstrators demanded urgent global intervention as the rebels solidify their hold on Goma.
