Rep. Alex Ikwechegh now humorously refers to himself as the "man who makes things disappear" following a viral incident involving a Bolt driver in October 2024. Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program and reflected on the controversy, noting that it inadvertently boosted his public profile.
He explained that although the situation was unfortunate, it allowed him to build a friendship with the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya. The lawmaker stated that the legal proceedings were dismissed by the court due to lack of merit, and he has since reconciled with the driver.
Ikwechegh clarified that the video that circulated did not fully capture the circumstances leading up to the confrontation. He acknowledged his actions but emphasized that they did not define his character. The incident, which began with a disagreement over a delivery of snails, led to a physical altercation where Ikwechegh slapped the driver and made threatening comments. The public backlash was swift, prompting an apology and a settlement with Abuwatseya.
The lawmaker expressed that the incident is now behind him, and he has moved on, with a new network of friends, including a closer relationship with the driver's pastor.
