Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has humorously suggested that 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital has a better chance of making the team than Marcus Rashford, the England international who has been absent from United's lineup since December 12.
Despite United’s struggle to break through against Fulham in Sunday’s narrow 1-0 win, Amorim stood firm in his decision, citing training discipline as the key factor behind Rashford's exclusion.
“Today on the bench, we missed a bit of pace to change the game, but I prefer it this way,” Amorim said. “I would choose Vital over a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day. I won’t compromise on that.”
When pressed about Rashford’s continued absence, Amorim reiterated, “It’s always about training and doing the right things daily. Until that changes, I won’t reconsider.”
Meanwhile, Rashford, despite the ongoing friction, shared his support on Instagram, congratulating his teammates on the victory.
United secured the win at Craven Cottage through Lisandro Martinez’s deflected long-range effort in the 78th minute, which looped past Fulham’s Bernd Leno.
