Buhari Reveals Income Source

I Now Feed From Renting My House — Buhari. Read more...

Former President Muhammadu Buhari says he sustains himself with income earned from renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna State, urging leaders to prioritize transparency and accountability during their tenure.

Speaking in Hausa at an APC caucus meeting at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Katsina, ahead of local government elections, Buhari emphasized that he did not corruptly enrich himself while in office. He also highlighted Nigeria's complexities, which make governance particularly challenging.

“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians don’t understand this. Leadership complexities become clear only when you are in an administrative position,” Buhari said.

The former president noted that he owns only three houses—in Daura and Kaduna—and lives off rental income from one of them.

“I look much better and healthier now than when I was president. After eight years, nobody can accuse me of illicit enrichment. I have one house in Daura and two in Kaduna. I rent out one for feeding,” Buhari stated.

He also addressed public criticisms of leadership, attributing them to a lack of understanding of governance challenges.
