Obasa Absent as Meranda Leads

Obasa Missing From Plenary as Meranda Leads Unified Assembly. Read more...

Mudashiru Obasa was notably absent from Monday's plenary session, despite maintaining that he still holds the position of Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following his impeachment.

This comes after reports revealed that the Assembly had instituted new security measures, instructing officials to present valid identity cards for access to the premises, accompanied by a heightened police presence around the complex.

Monday's session marked the third meeting presided over by the newly-elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, since Obasa’s removal. Obasa has been absent from all recent sittings, including the previous two.

During Monday's plenary, 39 members of the Assembly, along with Meranda, gathered for a group photo aimed at dispelling rumors that the Assembly had become divided following Obasa’s vocal claims about the legitimacy of his impeachment.

Obasa had previously argued that the process of his impeachment did not follow due procedure and remained adamant in his assertion that he was still the legitimate Speaker.

It is anticipated that Meranda will use today's session to appoint chairmen to oversee key standing committees responsible for the activities of the state's Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
