A couple miraculously survived a harrowing accident on Wednesday when a container fell on their Lexus Jeep at the Toyota bus stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, revealed in a statement on Thursday that the accident occurred in the evening following a distress call. The container had accidentally fallen on the rear side of the moving vehicle.
Firefighters, alongside concerned bystanders, rescued the victims—a 45-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman (names withheld)—from the wreckage of their Lexus Jeep 350 (registration number EKY 251 HW). The container had fallen from a Mack trailer (registration number BDG 513 XW) transporting two 20-foot containers.
According to Adeseye, the Isolo Fire Station team responded promptly at around 6:35 PM. The victims, along with the trailer driver, escaped unharmed and received trauma therapy to ensure their well-being.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) later cleared the damaged vehicles, while officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police worked together to ease the resulting traffic congestion.
The swift response from emergency services ensured the road was restored to normalcy shortly after the incident.
