Three federal judges have strongly condemned President Donald Trump's sweeping pardons of supporters who stormed the US Capitol four years ago. The pardons, granted to over 1,500 supporters, aimed to overturn the results of the 2020 election. However, the judges emphasized that no pardon can change the truth of what happened on January 6, 2021.

District Judge Tanya Chutkan stated, "It cannot whitewash the blood, feces, and terror that the mob left in its wake... And it cannot repair the jagged breach in America's sacred tradition of peacefully transitioning power." Chutkan presided over a criminal case against Trump, which was dismissed after he won the November election.

Two other judges, Beryl Howell and Colleen Kollar-Kotel, also dismissed charges against Capitol riot defendants, criticizing the pardons. Howell noted that "poor losers" cannot disrupt the peaceful transfer of power "with impunity," while Kollar-Kotel emphasized that the truth of what happened on January 6, 2021, is preserved through various records and cannot be altered by pardons.

Trump's decision to pardon the Capitol rioters has been widely criticized, with many arguing that it undermines the rule of law and legitimizes violence. The incident has also raised concerns about the former president's continued influence over his supporters and the potential for future violence.
