World number one Jannik Sinner cruised into the US Open third round with a straight-sets win over Australia’s Alexei Popyrin on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Italian, who needed just two hours and one minute, sealed the match 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, breaking Popyrin five times.
Sinner, the defending champion and winner of two Grand Slams this year, will face Canada’s Denis Shapovalov in the third round as he bids to become the first man since Roger Federer (2008) to defend the US Open title.
