A Federal High Court has granted Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, bail in the sum of ₦10 million with one surety in like sum. The surety must be a responsible individual with landed property of equal value and must submit the original documents along with a passport photograph to the court registrar.
The trial judge, Justice Musa Liman, also ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the court. He was given 24 hours to meet the bail conditions or face police custody until they are fulfilled.
Sowore had voluntarily reported to the police on January 27, 2025, for questioning at the Force Criminal Investigation Department. Though initially granted administrative bail, he rejected the conditions and remained in custody.
The police subsequently filed a 16-count cybercrime charge against him. Among the allegations, the police claimed that on December 20, 2024, Sowore referred to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun as the “illegal IG of Nigeria Police Force” in a post on his X handle. He was also accused of posting Egbetokun’s picture with a caption criticizing his leadership and warning that the IGP would "destroy the Nigeria police if we don’t act now."
Sowore pleaded not guilty to all charges.
