Five farmers were reportedly killed by armed men suspected to be herdsmen in the Ajegunle Powerline community, located in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The victims, laborers from Plateau and Kaduna states, were working on farmland when the attack took place around 3:00 pm on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses stated that the herdsmen had previously been damaging crops and disrupting the community’s livelihood.

According to one source, an ongoing pattern of such attacks has caused many farmers to flee their land for fear of their lives. The source, also a farmer, lamented the constant danger faced by farmers, with some having been killed and women occasionally raped.

A survivor of the attack described how the herdsmen suddenly appeared and began shooting indiscriminately, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.

CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident but was unable to provide an exact casualty count, stating that investigations were still underway.
